The Importance of the Business Model

Figuring out what you need is most of the battle

A meaningful business model is critical to the success of any IT project. Even the most elegant technology will not satisfy business needs if it doesn't take users’ needs and environments into account. We understand that the success of every Creative Data project hinges on a reliable business model.

We don’t start with any preconceived notions, nor do we create this model in a vacuum. Instead we collaborate efficiently with your senior executives, line managers, business analysts, and IT staff. Together, all parties come to understand the short- and long-term business goals, end-user requirements, and available data resources. That way, we don’t end up with a business model that is academically pleasing but has no buy-in from users or management.

We are expert at facilitating this process and know how to get to the heart of the matter fast. We don’t let the process go on indefinitely, nor do we allow it to be cut short. By unifying the team through cross-functional communication, we achieve unanimous awareness and agreement. By reaching consensus on concepts such as ‘net order’ and ‘customer’-- often across multiple divisions around the world -- we establish a universal terminology. By exploring the pros and cons of every decision, we set clear expectations of what the solution will and will not do.

Technology and the Business Model
The Creative Data business models reflects the way your company works, independent of constraints imposed by your current IT systems. On the other hand, our multichannel approach enables us to keep an eye on existing infrastructure, ensuring that the business model is attainable.

The business model becomes the bedrock on which all design and development rests. Every move is tested against the model: Does this feature meet user needs? Will the architecture support management’s long-term goals? Did we include the right level of detail to support required business activities?

Upfront effort means easy enhancement

Moreover, the effort we spend on the business model and the resultant architecture is well worth it. A quick-and-dirty software solution does not allow you to expand -- and often limits -- the functionality of the system. In contrast, you can add fields, data sources, new web application, and other features to a Creative Data solution -- without significant delay or cost -- all thanks to the quality of the business model.
